The atmosphere turns volatile, and sensing Ikumatsu's uneasiness, Katsura chases out the unwanted guests. Katsura learns from Ikumatsu and her brother-in-law's conversation that Ikumatsu is a widow and that the Joi Faction is responsible for her husband's death. Thus an emotionally scarred man and woman begin a strange life together. While trying to force his way out of a Shinsengumi inspection, Katsura is hit by Okita's bazooka and injures his leg.

Hanako then explains how she spent all her savings after joining the Dream Faith – a weird religious cult that promises to grant the power to make dreams come true. The Odd Jobs go undercover with Hanako’s help, but. Matsudaira summons Kondo, Hijikata, and Okita to the Ikedaya and informs the three of them that “You-know-who” is finally making his move. As tension runs high in the room, Matsudaira further declares it’s time for a “showdown.” Kondo and the others pledge their assistance to Matsudaira without really knowing whom this “You-know-who” is. When they find themselves at the amusement park and see a flirtatious man named Shichibei meet Kuriko, Matsudaira’s daughter, they realize Matsudaira is plotting to assassinate the man toying with his beloved daughter. Appalled by all of this, Hijikata decides to leave, but Kondo and Okita join in on the gig.
Gintama – The Amanto, aliens from outer space, have invaded Earth and taken over feudal Japan. As a result, a prohibition on swords has been established, and the samurai of Japan are treated with disregard as a consequence. However one man, Gintoki Sakata, still possesses the heart of the samurai, although from his love of sweets and work as a yorozuya, one might not expect it. Accompanying him in his jack-of-all-trades line of work are Shinpachi Shimura, a boy with glasses and a strong heart, Kagura with her umbrella and seemingly bottomless stomach, as well as Sadaharu, their oversized pet dog. Of course, these odd jobs are not always simple, as they frequently have run-ins with the police, ragtag rebels, and assassins, oftentimes leading to humorous but unfortunate consequences.
